I am a recovering alcoholic who studied with The William Glasser Institute where I achieved status as a Reality Therapist.  Following this, I became a fully qualified Addiction Therapist, having trained and worked at Castle Craig Hospital in the Scottish Borders.

At nineteen years my own “battle with the bottle” began.  Things were very wrong in my life and the only way for me to blot it out was to have a drink.  It numbed my thoughts and feelings.  It got me through.  Everything had deteriorated so quickly.  I felt very alone and, bit by bit, I isolated myself from everyone.  Initially I could hide the effects from my family.  I was a secretive drinker.  This did not last very long as things escalated into chaos quickly.  My family were very supportive of me but relationships became strained.

For the next few years life was horrendous.  At twenty two years following a period in a rehabilitation clinic for the treatment of addiction I set myself goals and began to rebuild my life.

As the years have gone by to describe what it is like being in recovery is impossible.  It’s just a feeling of being free!

My experiences are now helping other people.  I have worked with people from all “walks of life” who all have one thing in common – addiction.
